Getting to Bali

Bali is one of the numerous islands of Indonesia, in South-East Asia. The best and almost the only way to get to Bali is by flight. The Denpasar-Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) is located in the Kuta area, in the south of Bali, with connections to several countries accross the world.

Local Transport

Bali is relatively small in size, but travelling around is not as easy as one would expect; public transport is not straightforward for non-locals, and traffic jams are common. There are tourist-class bus services such as Kura-Kura where you can buy tickets online.

Taxis are a good option. The largest company is Bluebird Taxi which has a desk outside the arrivals section at Denpasar-Ngurah Rai International Airport, and has an app MyBluebird Taxi. There are other options such as Grab, a popular ride-hailing service in Asia.

Entry requirements

International visitors need a passport and a visa to fly to Bali, which belongs to Indonesia.

More information at:

Starting February 14, 2024, a tourist tax will be mandatory to enter Bali. Payment (by credit card only) is made online at lovebali.baliprov.go.id.
This tax contributes to the preservation of Balinese customs, arts, culture, and environment.
After payment, you will receive a QR code to present at checkpoints (Denpasar airport and ports of PadangBai, Serangan, Gilimanuk). The QR code is valid for 30 days from the date of presentation at the checkpoint. The QR code is not valid for re-entry into Bali.

Starting September 1, 2025, Indonesia has introduced a unified digital portal, named “All Indonesia”, to streamline immigration, customs, and health procedures into a single form, replacing multiple separate processes like SATUSEHAT (health declaration) and e-CD (customs declaration) online forms. This is a separate online form every traveler must complete  within 3 days before arrival, even if they already have a visa or are visa-exempt. To complete the form: https://allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id/

The new All Indonesia Arrival Card is not a visa. It’s a mandatory digital entry declaration (immigration + customs + health) but does not replace visa requirements

Visa: You still need to obtain the correct visa for your visit (Visa on Arrival, e-VOA, free visa for certain ASEAN nationals, or other visa types depending on your nationality and purpose).

The “All Indonesia” system is the new, unified standard currently being implemented, especially relevant for Bali arrivals.
